Syed – what a good MEP should be

My experience of Members of the European Parliament has not been good.

Back at the first election in 1979 and the ‘eighties and early ‘nineties the Euro constituency covering my home was blessed consecutively with two excellent MEPs, both of whom I was privileged to call friends.   But since then, since the large regional constituencies came in, it has been a different matter.   Getting one of the several Conservative members to attend anything in my area or to help with anything is like getting blood from a stone.

How lucky then are the London constituents who have the first class Syed Kamall as an MEP.   He works extremely hard not just at Strasbourg or Brussels but in his London patch, and indeed seems happy to visit other areas.   He also keep in frequent touch via the internet so that everyone knows what he is doing.

“Ah”, the gainsayers will moan, “it’s only a few weeks to the Euro Elections so of course he is about his constituency and all over the media”.   But Syed Kamall has been doing this every week for the last five years.

This is a man who is doing a great job and deserves promotion.
